THE NEW MUSICAL

Coming to Charleston September 2023

THIS MUST BE TOLD!

Daniel was a Hebrew boy taken into captivity by the Babylonians when Judah was conquered around 650 BC. Despite odds against him in this pagan culture, he not only survived but rose to leadership roles.
Daniel never compromised his loyalty to his one king in heaven and as a result influenced each of the worldly kings he served under; the evil king Nebuchadnezzar, his grandson King Belshazzar, and King Darius.
Daniel’s story inspires and emboldens us today!

A LEGACY OF COURAGE

SONG CLIPS

One song after another, you will fall in love with the music from Daniel and the Kings.  Just a little taste…

BLAMING

BLAMING

Our story opens in Judah, a broken world, straying from God’s commands. They had “no clue.”

JUDGMENTAL

JUDGMENTAL

Jeremiah’s warnings to his people are spoken in vain. He’s called a traitor and ignored.

BOYS MARCH

BOYS MARCH

The siege of Judah leads to heartbreak as families are torn apart and boys exiled to Babylon.

TEMPTATIONS

TEMPTATIONS

Daniel and his friends are tempted to stray from God’s commands. But, they remain steadfast in their faith, in a land far from home.

HOW WAS THAT DONE

HOW WAS THAT DONE

Whimsical wizards are bewildered by God’s miracles as they plot against Daniel and his friends.

PASSING OF KINGS

PASSING OF KINGS

The ever-present clash of good and tyranny passes king by king. It’s all the same.

MENE MENE

MENE MENE

Mysterious handwriting appears on the wall. “Fingers come to haunt us here.” What can this mean?

WHEN WILL HE UNDERSTAND

WHEN WILL HE UNDERSTAND

King Belshazzar’s mother and Daniel plead for mercy and care over her son, as his people drift from God’s way.

WHEN THEIR FEET REACH THE GROUND

WHEN THEIR FEET REACH THE GROUND

Are we teaching the next generation to have integrity, strength and conviction?

TESTING BEGINS

TESTING BEGINS

Daniel recognizes his fear, so far from home. He recalls his father’s words to prepare him for survival. Daniel submits to Babylon, with God’s embrace and guidance … his test begins.

DREAM OF THE BEAST

DREAM OF THE BEAST

Nebuchadnezzar asks Daniel to interpret his dream of a great tree at the center of the earth.  Daniel understands and explains the dream.  As Daniel foretold, Nebuchadnezzar is transformed into a wild animal.

LION'S DEN

LION'S DEN

Wizards connive to kill Daniel. Lions are hungry. King Darius is deceived and agrees to throw Daniel to the lions. Faced with death, Daniel does not abandon God. The lions’ mouths are shut by God, Daniel is rescued and King Darius rejoices.

Daniel and the Kings cast album recorded with Charleston area voices.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

Our Daniel “project” has been a walk of faith. In God’s timing, doors opened and volunteers with amazing voices and enthusiasm stepped forward to help: neighbors, friends, church members (Brunswick Church in Troy, NY and Northwood Church in Summerville, SC), and local performance groups. We are grateful to so many (55+) for the love they poured into the Daniel cast album.

THE WRITERS

Chuck and Karen Smith both enjoyed writing and musical performance from an early age. They met during their college years, quickly discovering a shared passion for music. While working in their non-music careers and raising children, they forged ahead volunteering their time in the musical arts. They encouraged and provided opportunities for hundreds of children, youth, and adults to perform as soloists, in small groups as well as theatrical productions using material they wrote. As a creative team they have amassed an impressive repertoire of songs, dramatic plays, animated children’s videos, and musical theatre.
Their Daniel project has spanned over a decade. Initially performed in Albany, NY in a church venue, it has evolved to become a broadway-style musical.
